The first and only private obstetric and gynecological hospital
Podobnik Special Hospital is the first and only private health institution in Croatia that provides outpatient care in addition to obstetric and gynecological inpatient care. It was founded in Zagreb in 2008 at the address Sv. Duh 112, and has a surface area of around 2900 m2. Our founding mission is to provide women in Croatia with a higher level of hospital medical services and accommodation in addition to the outpatient clinic services.
Founders and holders
The original facility Podobnik Polyclinic dates back to 1996 and provided services at Lovranska 8 in Zagreb until the opening of the new premises with an expanded polyclinic department and a new hospital unit for obstetrics and gynecology.
Podobnik Special Hospital is owned by the Podobnik family.
Prof. Mario Podobnik M.D., Ph.D. is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology, and one of the first subspecialists in fetal medicine in Croatia. He is also a subspecialist in human reproduction and a leading expert in ultrasound and prenatal diagnostics with over forty years of professional experience.
Prof. Slava Podobnik Šarkanji M.D., Ph.D. is a specialist in neurology. She has been the Hospital Manager since the establishment of the hospital, managing the organizational part of the business with visionary success.
Petra Podobnik M.D. is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. Fetal medicine and advanced ultrasound technologies are her specific professional interests, and she continues to develop the medical business together with the hospital's large and hard-working professional team.

With expertise and dedication to each individual patient and constant improvement of services, we strive every day to justify the trust we have gained and to be the first choice for all mothers who want to experience childbirth in the best possible medical and spatial conditions for themselves and their child, as well as for all women who have indications for gynecological surgery intervention.
Hospital units
The Outpatient Clinic of Podobnik Special Hospital continues to develop existing obstetrics and gynecology activities. The four outpatient clinics are superbly equipped with the cutting-edge medical-diagnostic devices that enable high-quality diagnostics.
The maternity unit is designed for all types of childbirth and obstetric surgery. Three comfortably decorated birthing rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, and a parturient woman can choose between several ways of giving birth: between natural birth on a chair or birth on the birthing table in various positions. Painless birth is possible using epidural analgesia, spinal analgesia or intravenous analgesia. Depending on the wishes of the mother, the partner can also be present at the birth. The maternity unit is equipped with a modern operating room for the completion of childbirth by caesarean section, under spinal or general anesthesia. Immediately after giving birth, the mother is placed in a private one-bedroom suite, and the newborn can stay with the mother, rooming-in, for all 24 hours of the day. Each suite has an en suite bathroom, air conditioning, LCD smart TV, wireless internet and a refrigerator.
Pregnant women are advised to be under the care of the hospital’s outpatient clinic for either the entire pregnancy or pregnancy from the 35th week at the latest in order to prepare and familiarize themselves with the possibilities of different ways of giving birth in order to suitably give birth in the maternity unit of Podobnik Special Hospital.
Gynecological surgeries (abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, adnexectomy), operative procedures in the treatment of static incontinence and pelvic floor defects, endoscopic gynecological surgeries (laparoscopy, hysteroscopy) and minor gynecological procedures (conization, LETZ conization, cyst punctures, curettage) are performed in the gynecology unit of the hospital.
Since 2023, the newly opened Center for Intimate Health has been operating, where we have integrated gynecological regenerative treatments, cutting-edge technology and an individualized approach all performed by specially trained staff.
